Economic conditions in the Savannah and coastal South Carolina areas continue to improve due to the diverse employment base. New home construction and industrial development have accelerated in the last year. New retail and office construction mainly in western Chatham, and southern Beaufort and Jasper Counties continues to find niche markets.
Industrial expansion continues greatly due to the success of the Georgia Ports Authority and manufacturers such as Gulfstream Aerospace and Mitsubishi. Continued solicitation by economic developers, the municipalities and counties and the State of Georgia have created a great deal of interest.
Tourism, as well as the hospitality and restaurant business have been adversely affected by the restrictions the COVID Virus has caused, although in the last quiarter of 2020, signs of improvement were seen.
